Chief Sapara Williams
Chief Sapara-Williams was born in 1855 of Ijesha origins.
He was the first to be called to the London's inner temple and formally qualify as a Barrister in 1879 in what became Nigeria.
In 1904 as a member of the legislative Council, he moved that the boundary between the Lagos Colony and the Southern Protectorate be adjusted so all the Yoruba speaking people should be under the same administration. Frederick Lugard did not agree.
In 1914 when the British amalgamated the Southern and Northern Protectorate, he did not agree. His position was that the South had nothing in common with the North and it will be a mistake for the people. He died shortly afterwards.
This is an ancestor who did his best in his lifetime.
Oduduwa Republic would honour men like this so they are remembered by future generations for all they did for the Yoruba people.
