Yoruba Value System

Image
In Yorubaland, money has never been at the top of Yoruba value system.   In the Yoruba value system money is number 5, what are the first 4? The first is laaka'ye which is the application of ogbon, imo, oye (knowledge, wisdom, understanding). For instance, my grandfather was like the chief judge in our homestead Adelegun. and our town Ago-Iwoye, in his time.  He did not have western education nor was he rich but as he had wisdom he was qualified. When the late Pa Abraham Adesanya and Adekunle Ajasin were made leaders, they were not the richest.  The second is valour. That is why Baloguns are second in command to the leaders in Yorubaland. Baloguns are people that can lead them to war. Yorubas have no respect for cowards.  The third is integrity, someone with integrity is a person of their words.  If you have all the wealth in the world but lack integrity, it means nothing. Integrity is combined with iwa- character which the Yoruba regard as omoluabi. The fourth is having

Western Nigeria Television

Western Nigeria Television  Used to have programmes where the various Yoruba dialects were spoken. The pioneers of those programmes would have taken for granted dialects such as Awori, Ondo, Ijebu etc  A Yoruba nation will work to ensure these beautiful Yoruba dialects are reinvigorated so they are not lost. They will be preserved for future generations. The future is bright, the future is Oduduwa Republic.

Another loss

Bolanle Raheem and the countless Yoruba who have died over the years. During colonial times, northern officers were used to police Yoruba spaces to keep us in check. Millions of Yoruba have died over the years at the hands of these merchants of death. We are still under colonial rule thanks to the selfish and visionless called Yoruba politicians.  The killing of a Yoruba female barrister on 25th December 2022, on what should have been a day of joy will continue until the Yoruba are no longer in colonial enterprise Nigeria.

Anikulapo the Movie - Lessons

Image
Another Yoruba film I watched recently is Anikulapo. In Anikulapo, a film of Saro the Weaver and Arolake the Olori.  Saro forgot how much he owed Arolake, he disrespected her with his women and slapped her.  We learnt of the problems that can arise where there are many wives in a Royal house. We learnt of the bravery of women as illustrated by Arolake. We learnt that iwa, (character) is important, with Saro unable to control his appetites  We learnt that there are consequences for our actions.  Excellent film by Kunle Afolayan, hope he continues to make these Yoruba films that showcase Yoruba culture, traditions, the beauty of our language with fantastic actors and the universal lessons of life.

Elesin Oba - the movie lessons

Image
Over the last few days, I watched Elesin Oba. In Elesin Oba, we saw a man who knew his duty yet decided marrying a girl promised to another was the priority, then once he had his wedding night seemed to be delaying carrying out that duty. This gave Pickings the English colonial officer time to intervene in matters that were nothing to do with him.  In the end Elesin Oba lost more than he could have imagined.  Lesson1, the central role played by the leadership of women in Yoruba culture and society as illustrated by Iyaloja. Lesson2, the Yoruba believe that iwa (character) is very important, Elesin Oba could not or chose not to overcome his selfishness and control his appetites.  Lesson 3, the Colonial bandits as represented by Pickings did a great deal of damage with their interference in what they did not understand.  Lesson 4, we can do what we like but there are always consequences for our actions, in fact Iyaloja in one of her questions warned him.  There's a market for these a

Abuja Declaration of 1989

The Abuja Declaration of 1989 The Conference was held in Abuja and hosted by Babangida who gave the OIC in excess of $20billion in 1989 of Yoruba and other Southern money. Declarations included that all Muslims in Africa should be governed under Sharia law. As Nigeria is not a Muslim majority state, all efforts must be made to turn it into an Islamic Sultanate and all laws should be replaced with Sharia. All elective positions should only go to Muslims and only they should be appointed to strategic posts. All religions that are not Islam should be eradicated.  Arabic language should be promoted ahead of others including African indigenous languages. Execution phase  1.Decree 24, mistakenly called 1999 constitution, where Islam and Sharia mentioned many times. 2. All presidents of colonial enterprise Nigeria have been working according to the Sultanate road map since. 3. In some places unless you pass Arabic, you can't pass economics, accountancy, statistics etc. 4. Have the 2023 el
This blog will cover all things Yoruba and other matters principally from a Yoruba perspective. The Yoruba are an ancient people, who built empires, the Ife Empire in the 11th Century, the Oyo Empire in the 16th Century come to mind, there were also numerous kingdoms.  They are a people of between 40 and 50 million trapped in the colonial enterprise called Nigeria and upwards of  200 in the diaspora. Nigeria was created to make money for the colonial bandits and if it destroyed the Yoruba language, culture, values and our land then who cares.  Every generation is a new people and with the blessing of Olodumare, we will have a separate sovereign Yoruba nation, Oduduwa Republic.
